Mountain Biking Ballyhoura

Mountain Biking Ballyhoura

For a real adrenaline fuelled adventure, Mountain Biking in the enchanting Ballyhouras forest is up there with the best. You will find a professionally designed series of MTB trails which are among the most exciting in Europe. Immerse yourself in the wild outdoors and enjoy the magical ‘away from it all feeling’ detached from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Ballyhoura region is shrouded in history with Ardpatrick’s round tower (ruin) believed to be visited by St. Patrick, many tales from Irish myth and legend took place here and look out for ancient wedge tombs or the imposing Castle Oliver stately home. The beautiful scenery is distracting so keep your eye on the trail or else stop for a rest overlooking the sumptuous hills and valleys, fields and forests - a patchwork quilt of varying green shades.

With some of the best Mountain Bike Trails in Ireland, they vary in length and will suit all levels from beginners to pro. There are berms, jumps, ramps etc. to test even the most experienced riders. Choose from an introductory beginners 6km course or the tough 45Km track or many other lengths in-between. Enjoy the tough climbs if you can before you get to relish some free flowing single-track heaven, weave through winding trail and build up speed on the super-fast downhill sections! The trails are well maintained and recently a new section of downhill was added which I haven’t tried yet! All reports say that it’s a brilliant addition to an already great facility.

Mountain biking is an ideal activity for a stag do in Ireland and a great workout for body, especially in such gorgeous surroundings, well worth a try no matter what age. Bikes can be rented or repaired onsite, there is a bike wash, coffee facilities and plenty of parking and even a shower to wash off your possibly very muddy self! So get on your bike and experience Mountain Biking Ireland at its best. Enjoy this special place just an hour from Cork and 30 minutes from Limerick. Just don’t forget food, kit, water and a map for the longer rides!
